QR code for a link or Wi-Fi: create, colour, and check

Alati za slike onlineUpdated

A QR code is the shortest route from paper to a page, a network, or a contact. A guest scans it with a phone camera and types nothing. This guide shows how to make one with our tool and what to check before you print it.

Choose what the code should open

Open the QR code generator and pick one of six types: link or text, Wi-Fi network, contact card, phone call, SMS, or email. For a website, enter the full address, including https at the start. The code updates as you type, so you see the result straight away.

For Wi-Fi, enter the network name and password exactly as your router shows them, with the same capital and small letters. Leave security on WPA/WPA2/WPA3 unless your router uses the older WEP or an open network. If the network is hidden, turn on Hidden network.

Colours, size, and error correction

The code must be darker than its background. A black code on white reads on every phone, and when you pick colours the tool warns you if the contrast is too weak. Use a transparent background only when you know the code will sit on a light surface.

Medium error correction is enough for most uses. High and Highest make the code more resistant to scratches and dirt, but it becomes denser. Do not shrink the margin to zero: the empty edge helps the camera find the code.

PNG for screens, SVG for print

PNG is a pixel image, and you choose a size from 128 to 4096 pixels. It suits messages, slides, and posts. For a flyer, poster, or sticker, download the SVG, which stays sharp at any size. If the printer asks for PNG, a larger PNG is better than a small one that gets stretched. When the logo or drawing for the flyer exists only as a PNG and you need a vector, PNG to SVG helps.

Test the code before printing

Scan the finished code with two different phones and from the distance people will really use. Check that it opens exactly the page or network you meant. You can also check a screenshot or photo of the code with our QR code scanner.

The code is static: the content is written into the image itself, so it never expires and never passes through anyone else's server. That also means a typo in the link stays in every printed copy. If the address changes, make a new code. What you type stays in your browser, as the privacy page explains.

Apply the steps to your file.
