How to merge PDF files in order and check the result

Alati za slike onlineUpdated

Combining an application, supporting statement, and several attachments into one PDF starts with choosing the right documents. Before opening a merge tool, decide what the reader should see first. A clear order makes the finished file easier to review and reduces the chance of sending the wrong attachment.

The merge PDF tool combines existing PDFs in your browser and can insert JPG or PNG images as separate pages. This guide covers the working sequence, the difference between merging and compression, and the checks to make before sharing the result. Keep your original files until you have reviewed the finished document.

Prepare the documents before adding them

Open each source PDF and check its contents. Similar filenames can hide an older version, a duplicate, or an attachment intended for someone else. Put the originals in a separate folder. If a document needs changes before merging, save the edited version as a separate copy so you can return to the original when needed.

Write down the intended order: main document, supporting statement, then attachments. Names such as 01-application.pdf and 02-attachment.pdf can help you recognize each file. However, do not assume the browser will add them in that order. The list displayed inside the tool determines the sequence used to create your new PDF.

When you need only part of a document, use split PDF to extract the required pages first. If you are removing a few unwanted sheets from an otherwise complete file, delete PDF pages is a better fit. Preparing the source files makes it less likely that a blank page or unrelated attachment will enter the final package.

Add files and arrange their order

Open the tool, choose the file selection button, and select the prepared documents. On a computer, you can drag them into the marked area. Wait for the list to appear, then check the filenames individually. This matters when separate folders contain documents that share the same name.

Use the arrows beside each file to move it earlier or later. The order of whole files becomes the order of the merged PDF. If the first document contains two pages and the second contains three, the output will contain five pages, with the second document following the first. Pages within each source PDF keep their existing sequence.

To insert an attachment between two pages of a document, split that document into suitable parts first. Add the first part, the attachment, and the remaining part in the required order. Moving a whole file cannot move one of its internal pages independently. Once the list is correct, start merging and wait for the download link.

Insert photographs between documents

JPG and PNG photographs can become separate pages in the same package. Add them alongside the PDF files and place them where they belong in the list. The page size setting in the merge tool applies to added images. It does not automatically convert all existing PDF pages to the same paper size.

For a document made entirely from photographs, use JPG to PDF when you need controls for paper size, orientation, and margins. Create and inspect that PDF before combining it with other documents. If a phone supplied HEIC photos, convert them with HEIC to JPG before adding them to the merge tool.

Check that each photograph is upright and that its edges do not cut off text. You can correct an existing PDF page with rotate PDF. For a photograph with a wide empty border, cropping the image before conversion may be more useful. Keep the entire document visible, including any stamp, signature, or note near the bottom edge.

Know what merging preserves

Existing PDF pages are copied into a new document without turning each page into a photograph. You do not need to convert ordinary text pages to JPG before merging them. That extra conversion can make text harder to select later and may change the appearance unnecessarily.

The result does not promise to preserve every function of the original documents. Navigation bookmarks and fillable form fields can be lost when pages are combined. If the recipient needs active form fields, open the finished file in the program they will use and check those fields. Keep the original form available if its behavior does not carry over.

Editing sentences and paragraphs is a different task. PDF to Word extracts content into a DOCX file, with limits on layout reproduction. The guide to converting PDF to Word explains when text recognition is needed and why documents with several columns require closer checking after conversion.

Solve file and size problems

The merge tool accepts up to 30 files, up to 60 MB per file and 150 MB combined. This is an intake limit, not a promise that every phone can process a package that large. For demanding files, try a smaller group and close other busy browser tabs. Keep the working tab open until the result has finished preparing.

Encrypted PDFs cannot be merged with this tool. If you have permission to access the document, unlock it in a suitable program before adding it again. Renaming a file or changing its extension does not remove encryption or repair damaged contents. If a PDF also fails to open in a normal reader, download a fresh copy from its source.

Merging brings documents together, so the output does not necessarily become smaller. If a portal rejects the finished package because of its size, try compress PDF, then check readability again. When the attachments are photographs you have not converted yet, the image compression guide explains how to reduce the source files before making a PDF.

Correct an ordering mistake without extra conversions

If the downloaded file contains an attachment in the wrong place, return to your source list. Decide whether the mistake is between whole files or inside one PDF. For whole files, rearrange the list and create a new result. For a mistake inside a PDF, prepare the correct parts first. Moving that PDF's filename in the list does not rearrange its internal pages.

Do not add the incorrect merged output alongside the same originals. That can duplicate the contents instead of correcting them. Build a clear list from the required sources and compare it with your intended sequence. Rename or move the earlier download so you will not mistake it for the corrected copy. Open the new output and inspect the places you changed. For a larger package, note each attachment's name and starting page to make the check easier.

Review the package you will actually send

Open the downloaded PDF from its saved location. Check the first and last pages, the transitions between documents, and the expected page count. Look closely at small text and photographs. For an application with several attachments, confirm that each attachment belongs to the correct application and that no page has been duplicated accidentally.

Give the finished file a name the recipient can recognize, and keep the originals until the package has been accepted. File processing on this site stays in the browser. Sending the output by email or uploading it to another portal is a separate action. The privacy page explains local processing and the site's visitor measurement settings.

Apply the steps to your file.
