Does it work as a video trimmer, to trim video and cut video?
Yes. Trim the start or end of a clip or take out any part from the middle, and the result is an MP4 that opens everywhere.
Why does the start move in lossless mode?
Video is compressed in groups of frames that begin with a keyframe. Without re-encoding, a clip has to start on a keyframe, so the tool uses the nearest one before your start and shows under the video exactly where it begins. For phone clips that is usually a second or two at most.
When should I choose exact cut?
When the clip has to begin on the chosen frame, for example for editing or posting on social media. The picture of that part is re-encoded at high quality, which takes longer, and the difference is usually invisible.
Can I cut an iPhone video?
Yes. MOV and HEVC video from an iPhone cut losslessly in any browser. For an exact cut the browser has to open HEVC, which Safari can and Chrome only on some computers.
What about the sound?
AAC sound is copied unchanged. Uncompressed camera sound is converted to AAC, and you can also remove the sound.
