MP3 to WAV

WAV opens in every audio and video editor, in CD burning software and on older devices that do not play MP3. Choose one or more files, and the tool opens each one in your browser and writes it as WAV, with the same sample rate and number of channels as the original. Nothing is resampled unless you choose 44.1 or 48 kHz yourself, and the sound never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does it also do MP4 to WAV?

Yes. The tool is also an MP4 to WAV converter: add an MP4 video and you get only its sound as WAV. The same works for M4A, OGG voice messages, FLAC and AAC, so you can use it as a WAV converter for almost any sound.

Does the sound get better as WAV?

No. WAV keeps exactly what is in the MP3, with no new loss, but it cannot bring back what the MP3 lost. The benefit is that every program opens WAV and that further editing loses no more quality.

Why is WAV so much larger?

WAV is not compressed. A minute of stereo sound at 44.1 kHz and 16 bit is about 10 MB, while the same minute as a 128 kbps MP3 is about 1 MB. The largest WAV the tool makes is 500 MB, about 49 minutes of stereo sound at 16 bit, and the tool tells you before converting if the file would be larger.

Which sample rate and bit depth should I choose?

Keep the original sample rate, so the sound is not resampled. For a CD choose 44.1 kHz, and for video 48 kHz. 16 bit is enough for any MP3, and 24 bit is for a WAV you will keep editing in an audio editor.

Are the song title and artist kept?

No. The WAV gets the sound only, and you add the title and artist in your music app.

Can I cut part of a song first?

Yes. Cut the part with the MP3 cutter, then convert that part to WAV here.
