MOV to MP4
iPhones and many cameras record MOV, which some programs, TVs and websites do not accept. The tool repackages the video as MP4: the picture and AAC sound are copied byte for byte with no re-encoding, so the quality matches the original and it takes a few seconds. A portrait clip stays upright, and the video never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions
Is quality lost?
No. The picture and AAC sound are only moved from the MOV container into an MP4 container, with no re-encoding, so every frame matches the original.
Why is the MP4 the same size as the MOV?
Because the video is not compressed again. For a smaller file, use the video compressor, which makes a smaller MP4.
My iPhone video is HEVC. What does that mean?
Newer iPhones record HEVC (H.265), which stays HEVC in the MP4. Some older Windows computers and TVs cannot open HEVC. For an MP4 that opens everywhere, use the video compressor, which always makes H.264.
What about sound from a camera?
Cameras often record uncompressed PCM sound. It is converted to AAC where the browser can do that, and otherwise left out, and the tool says so.
Which MOV files are not supported?
Apple ProRes video from professional cameras and editing software cannot be read by the browser, so the tool refuses it.
