Size and compression

GIF compressor

The tool makes animated GIF files smaller while keeping the animation. You can lower the number of colours, reduce the dimensions or drop every second frame, and the timing is kept so the speed stays the same. The new size is shown next to the original.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my GIF barely shrink?

A GIF that is already optimised often cannot get much smaller. Try fewer colours or smaller dimensions.

Will the animation play faster if I drop frames?

No. When every second frame is dropped, the remaining frames are shown longer, so the speed stays the same. The motion may look less smooth.

What reduces a GIF the most?

Smaller dimensions help most, because 50 percent means four times fewer pixels. Fewer colours and every second frame reduce it further.

How do I get a much smaller file?

For a much smaller file, video formats such as MP4 or WebM are better, as they store the same animation in a far smaller file.
