PDF to EPUB
A PDF has fixed pages, so its text is tiny on a phone or e-reader. The tool reads the PDF text in your browser, removes repeating headers and page numbers, joins lines into paragraphs and finds headings by their font size, which become chapters and a table of contents. You get an EPUB 3 book whose text fits the screen. The PDF never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the PDF layout not kept?
EPUB is made for text that reflows to the screen, so the page layout cannot stay the same. The tool keeps the reading order, paragraphs and headings. Bold, italics, tables and images inside the text are not carried over, and pages that are only a picture are added as a picture. Text in two or more columns, as in newspapers and research papers, can get mixed up, so the tool works best for single column books, course notes and reports.
What if the PDF is scanned?
A scanned page has no text, so it is added as a picture and does not reflow. For real text from scans, use PDF to Word with text recognition first.
How are chapters made?
A new chapter starts at each main heading, found by its larger font size. If the PDF has no such headings, the book is split into parts of ten pages.
Can I send the EPUB to a Kindle?
Yes. Amazon's Send to Kindle service accepts EPUB and prepares it for the Kindle. Kobo, PocketBook, Apple Books and Google Play Books open EPUB directly.
Does it work with a password protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password. Enter it in the settings before converting.
