Frequently asked questions
How do I make an upright video for Reels or TikTok?
Choose 9:16, then drag the box left or right to the part of the frame you want to keep. For an Instagram post, choose 1:1 or 4:5.
Can I resize the video?
Yes. Under Video size, choose at most 1080p, 720p or 480p. If you leave the box over the whole frame, the tool only makes the video smaller, without cropping the picture.
Does the video lose quality?
The picture is re-encoded as H.264 at a bitrate based on the original, so the difference is usually not visible. If the crop is the whole frame at full size, the video stays the same and is not re-encoded, and the tool says so next to the result.
Why are the sizes always even?
H.264 video needs an even width and height, so the tool rounds every crop to an even number of pixels. The ready shapes are therefore exact to within one pixel.
Does it work with upright phone videos?
Yes. The frame is shown the way you see it on the phone, the crop applies to that picture, and the result keeps the right orientation.
How do I cut the start or end of a video?
That is what the video cutter does: it removes part of the time. Crop video removes part of the picture, so you can use both tools one after the other.
